The British Basketball League returned in full swing over the weekend with 10 games over three days. The Newcastle Eagles picked up a pair of wins to improve their league best record to 15-3. Newcastle beat the Worcester Wolves 94-82 on Friday thanks to newcomer Steve Leven with 21 points and Darius Defoe with 18. On Sunday the Eagles topped the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets 82-112 behind Fabulous Flournoy’s 20 points. SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks continued its recent run of good form with two more wins to improve to 13-7. The Rocks beat the second place Marshall MK Lions 67-89 behind Maurice Hampton’s 22 points and then routed the Sheffield Sharks 82-56 as Rob Yanders scored 17. The Defending champion Guildford Heat suffered a setback with a 95-90 loss at the Everton Tigers in a game where Richard Midgley shined with 25 points. Tony Dorsey led the Heat with 26 points, Daniel Gilbert added 24 and Dean Williams 13. The Heat bounced back by besting the Team Birmingham Panthers 107-88 as Dorsey and Gilbert came through again with 24 and 19 points, respectively, while Mike Martin added 18. The Kularoos Plymouth Raiders beat the Worcester Wolves 87-92 and then Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders 73-70 to also remain strong in the fight for first at 13-6. In other games, the Lions defeated Birmingham 53-85 and PAWS London Capital trumped Leicester 58-67.
