Belgian League, Regular Season, Game 26: March 22, 2008
Chuck Davis - Telindus Oostende The hotly contested race in the Belgian League saw little change on Saturday as the top three teams in the table all won. Basket Bree defeated Spotter Leuven to keep the best record at 19-6. Defending champion Telindus Oostende has the same amount of wins, but one more loss after topping VOO Verviers-Pepinster. Dexia Mons-Hainut is next at 18-8 after beating Belgacom Liege. Titus Ivory sank a pair of free throws in the finals seconds to lift Oostende to a 77-79 road win. The visitors finished the first quarter with a 0-13 run to take a 12-24 lead, but Pepinster battled back and took the lead midway through the third quarter. The game would change hands 11 more times over the last 15 minutes going down to the wire. Jamar Wilson’s triple with just under a minute to go made it 77-76, but on the next possession Chuck Davis tied it at the line for Oostende, the Greg Brunner rejected Wilson's next shot and Ivory drew the foul and sank the game-winning free throws. Brunner led six Oostende scorers in double figures with 18 points, Jerry Green scored 14 and dished 5 assists, Sam Van Rossom added 12 points, Veselin Petrovic and Davis had 11 each and Ivory finished with 10. Earnest Shelton led Pepinster with 20 points, Sacha Massot had 15 and Wilson 12 in defeat. Bree had an easier time against Leuven, winning 93-70 as Odell Hodge scored 18 and Dor Fisher had a brilliant game with 14 and Doron Perkins dished 9 assists. Mons coasted past Liege 102-89 thanks to Nate Reinking's 20 points. Spirou Charleroi fell out of a tie for third place when it lost 80-71 at Generali Okapi Aalstar. Trevor Huffman and Damian Cantrell hit back-to-back three-pointers during a 12-2 first-quarter run as Aalstar took the lead and never let go. Charleroi was able to cut the gap to 4 points in both the third and fourth quarter, but each time Aalstar answered with a triple to hold off the visitors en route to the win. Huffman ked Aalstar with 21 points and 8 assists, Pablo Gonzales added 19 points and Cantrell had 15. Roel Moors scored 19 and Matt Walsh and Tremmell Darden added 16 points apiece for Spirou in defeat. In Saturday's other game, last place Optima Gent downed Antwerp Giants 67-78 as James Miller scored a season-high 26.
