Austrian League playoffs, Quarterfinals, Game 1: April 17, 2008
Deteri Mayes - Swans Gmunden Defending champion Allianz Swans Gmunden and Arkadia Traiskirchen started the Austrian League playoffs with victories in Game 1 on Thursday. The Swans bested WBC Kraftwerk Wels 90-82, while Traiskirchen defeated the Kapfenberg Bulls 93-81. The two best-of-five series winners will advance to the semis, where the top two teams from the regular season, the Oberwart Gunners and BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld, await. Gmunden was coasting along and led 50-35 at halftime, but Wels roared back with a 16-32 third period to regain the lead, but Deteri Mayes and co. came back to win it in the end. Mayes led Gmunden with 30 points, Peter Hutter and Matthias Mayer added 15 points apiece and Ian Boylan and Kevin Johnson scored 12 each. Casey Archibald and Kendrick Davis scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, for Wels. Traiskirchen opened strong, led 54-41 at halftime and held on. Joey Vickery led the charge with 23 points and Davor Lamesic posted 17 points and 6 assists.
