Austrian League playoffs, Quarterfinal Game 2: April 19, 2008
Deteri Mayes - Swans Gmunden Defending champion Allianz Swans Gmunden took a 2-0 lead in the Austrian League quarterfinal playoffs by topping WBC Kraftwerk Wels 76-71 at home in Game 2 on Saturday. Deteri Mayes paced the winners with 18 points, Ian Boylan added 17 while Peter Hutter had 11 for Gmunden. Elijah Palmer had 19 points for Wels, that trailed 55-44 late in the third quarter and still had an 11-point deficit, 71-60, with under 4 minutes to go. A 1-9 run got Wels within striking distance, 72-69, already in the final minute, but the guests did not get closer. Meanwhile, Kapfenberg Bulls bounced back from its initial quarterfinal loss by edging Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions 90-97 in Game 1 also on Saturday. Series are tied at 1-1 but the Bulls have stolen the home court advantage. Kevin Nelson led the winners with 27 points, Ramiz Suljanovic added 21 while Shawn Ray had 19 for the Bulls. Davor Lamesic had 29 points for the Lions. The two best-of-five series winners will advance to the semis, where the top two teams from the regular season, the Oberwart Gunners and BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld, await.
