The Guildford Heat won the British Basketball League Playoffs on Sunday by beating the Marshall MK Lions 100-88 in the final. Danny Gilbert was named MVP after drilling 27 points on 5-for-7 three-point shooting in the title game at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena. By capturing the golden basketball trophy, the Heat have now lifted all four pieces of BBL silverware over the past two seasons. The game was a close affair, with the Heat holding a slim 42-41 lead at halftime. But a 10-0 charge highlighted by a Gilbert three early in the fourth quarter put the Heat in control. Mike Martin posted 25 points and 10 rebounds and Tony Dorsey added 19 points for the Heat. Dru Spinks led Marshall with 22. Kularoos Plymouth Raiders bested the regular-season champion Newcastle Eagles to captured third place after a 92-96 win as Gaylon Moore netted a game-high 26.
