|
The Euroleague free agent team won its second game of the ULEB Summer League by downing Maccabi Elite 81-63 on Friday. Four players scored in double digits for the winner: Zoltan Horvath with 14 points, Mark Zoller and Martin Samarco with 13 each and Alexandre Formin with 11 off the bench, making 2 of his 4 three-point tries. Maccabi, on the other hand, had only two players scoring more than 10 points: Jason Smith had 14 and Roland Hendlein 13. Euroleague is now atop group A with a 2-0 record while Maccabi fell to the last place at 0-2. Maccabi lost half of its chances in the beginning. As in its opening game against Virtus Roma, Maccabi struggled to score and Euroleague could easily score up to 13 consecutive points. A three-pointer by Marshall Strickland – who ended 1-for-8 from the long range – gave Euroleague the highest lead of the first half , 25-5 after 9 minutes. In the second quarter, Maccabi narrowed the gap by switching to zone defense in order to stop Euroleague offense. Hendlein and Smith inspired a 6-18 run to make it 31-23 in minute 15 before the game returned to a double-digit margin for Euroleague. After halftime, Euroleague ran away even more as Zoller and Horvath pushed the lead to 53-27 in only 5 minutes. Rom and Steiner helped Maccabi to avoid sinking, but the game was already gone as Euroleague could fix its unbeaten record by ending with an 81-63 win.
