Akasvayu keeps Middleton, adds Montañez
Darryl Middleton One of the most veteran players in European basketball is ready to make his ULEB Cup debut, as Darryl Middleton has inked a new one-year deal with Akasvayu Girona. Middleton, who turns 41 this month, enters his sixth season in Girona, even when he first joined the club in 1991. He averaged 3.1 points in 24 Spanish League games last season, also helping Akasvayu to win the FIBA EuroCup. Middleton has also played for Dynamo St. Petersburg in Russia, Panathinaikos in Greece, as well as for Barcelona, Joventut and Caja San Fernando in Spain. Middleton won back-to-back Spanish League MVP awards with Girona in 1992 and Caja San Fernando in 1993. He also helped Panathinaikos to win the Euroleague title in 2002 and won four Greek League titles with the Greens between 2001 and 2005. Middleton also won back-to-back Spanish League titles with Barcelona in 1995 and 1996. Meanwhile, Akasvayu also inked a one-year deal with shooting guard Roman MontaƱez, with an option to extend it until the end of 2008-09. MontaƱez (192, 28) arrives from Bilbao Basket, where he averaged 8.8 points in 33 Spanish League games. He has also played for Valladolid, Manresa and Lleida.
