Dragons lose Melzer, get Freije

 The Artland Dragons signed power forward Matt Freije to a short-term deal on Tuesday to take the place of injured scorer Rich Melzer, who suffered a torn Achilles' tendon. Freije (201, 25) penned a contract through December, which will allow the club to ease Melzer back before deciding upon Freije's future. Freije has played at the highest levels of professional basketball before, spending time with New Orleans and Atlanta in the NBA and Olympiacos Piraeus in the Euroleague. Last season he played for the Guayama Wizards in Puerto Rico.
