Regular Season, Week 5 review
Record-setting night marks halfway point of regular season
Alba Berlin celebrates An amazing Week 5 that marked the halfway point in the ULEB Cup regular season reached historic proportions on Tuesday with the longest and highest-scoring game ever played in the competition. Alba Berlin defeated visiting KK Bosna 141-127 after five overtimes and 65 minutes of action in the German capital. The Alba-Bosna show beat records for both minutes played and points scored that had belonged to Lukoil Academic's triple-overtime 116-115 victory against KK Zagreb on November 11, 2003. Both Alba and Bosna surpassed the previous single-game scoring record by one team, 121 points. Alba hero Bobby Brown finished with 44 points, the second-most by any player in a ULEB Cup game, while Goran Nikolic played 63 minutes, 40 seconds! It was a night made for records, in fact, starting with Ruben Douglas of Pamesa, who buried the 9 three-point shots, the most ever made in a single ULEB Cup game, although his team lost a battle for first place in Group D by 81-78 at Khimki as Anton Ponkrashov's triple won the game. In Group E, Pascal Perrier-David of Benetton Olympic Fribourg registered the fourth-ever ULEB Cup triple-double and became the first visiting player to do so in his team's 65-85 victory at Hapoel Galil Lyon. In addition to Khimki, DKV Joventut and Besiktas Cola Turka remained undefeated atop Group A and Group B, respectively. Asco Slask took over first place in Group G, while BC Kyiv did the same in Group H and PGE Turow Zgorzelec did so in Group I. In three groups, co-leaders now share first place: Dynamo Moscow and Red Star in Group F, Triumph Lyubertsy and KK Buducnost in Group E, and Akasvayu Girona and Galatasaray Cafe Crown in Group C.
