Regular Season, Week 6 review
Second-leg openers set up qualification races
Arriel McDonald - Akasvayu Girona A trio of still-undefeated group leaders have all but qualified mathematically for the elimination rounds while two other teams took sole possession of first place in 27 games that filled the entire Week 6 schedule on Tuesday. DKV Joventut defeated Alba Berlin 65-80 on the road to stay perfect atop Group A. Besiktas Cola Turka did the same in Group B as it defeated visiting BK Ventspils 84-77. And Khimk won a squeaker 77-80 at SLUC Nancy to stay unbeaten in Group D. In the pair face-offs between tied co-leaders, home teams won both times. Akasvayu Girona downed Galatasaray Cafe Crown 89-78 to take over the Group C lead while Triumph Lyubertsy turned back visiting KK Buducnost 75-65 in Group E. The story was reversed in Group F, where both co-leaders lost, Red Star by 74-96 to visiting CEZ Nymburk and Dynamo Moscow on the road in an 81-62 blowout at the hands of Beghelli Bologna. Group G is now the closest in the competition, with five teams on either four or three victories. After Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas downed erstwhile leader Asco Slask Wroclaw 82-71, they joined a first-place tie with Asvel Basket, an 8174 winner over Ludwigsburg. Group H is nearly as close, with Lukoil Academic stopping ASK Riga 93-77 and Artland Dragons winning 61-79 at Pau-Orthez do join BC Kyiv, a 73-89 home loser to Benetton Tamoil, in a three-way tie for first place. And in Group I, one of the surprise teams of the competition, PGE Turow Zgorzelec, consolidated its lead by winning 70-77 at EiffelTowers Den Bosch. ....More
