Besok out for Galatasaray
Huseyin Besok - Galatasaray Cafe Crown Despite resuming practice with Galatasaray Cafe Crown earlier in the week, veteran rebounding ace Huseyin Besok will not play in the quarterfinals on Thursday, head coach Murat Ozyer said after the team arrived in Turin, Italy for the Final Eight on Tuesday. Besok, the 33-year-old anchor in the middle for Galatasaray, hurt his back since the last elimination round and missed Turkish League games. During the ULEB Cup season, Besok started in nine of his 11 appearances for Galatsaray, averaging 8.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.7 blocks in just over 20 minutes per game. Besok is the most experienced player on Galatasaray due to his Korac Cup title with Efes Pilsen in 1996 and three subsequent Final Four appearances, two with the same team and one with Maccabi Tel Aviv. He has also won national championships in four countries: Turkey, France, Israel and Poland. Besok practiced on Monday in Istanbul with his teammates, but when Galatasaray was the first team to take the Final Eight floor for practice in Turin, Italy on Tuesday, Besok did not join them. Ozyer declared Besok out for the quarterfinal game on Thursday, but did not speculate on whether he could play later in the weekend if needed.
